The Cultivated Cultures exhibition was one of the several events that made up the big showcase of contemporary art, the 16th edition of the Media Art Biennale WRO 2015, which took place in Wrocław from May till September 2015 under the title Test Exposure.

The presentation of the exhibition at the Lviv’s State Museum of Natural History within the program of the Tetramatyka festival is the exhibition’s first display after the Wrocław premiere. The exhibition is composed of six works that were either sent in by the artists to the program of the WRO 2015 Biennale, such as Whispers by Katrin Caspar & Eeva-Liisa Puhakka, Body Language by Michał Brzeziński or Everything Human Is Alien To Me by Dobrosława Nowak, chosen to the First Best Media Art Diploma Work Competition (B-612 by Natalia Balska, awarded in this comptetion) or works that were developed by WRO (Waterfall, Paweł Janicki & the WROcenter Group), and complemented by the installation The Symbiosity of Creation by Elvin Flamingo, shown here in form of a video documentation that was invited to the exhibition as its expressive thematic axis.

“The Cultivated Cultures exhibition, in itself offering a unique research enclave, spotlighted an array of issues intensely explored in media art, probing, in particular, the art/science convergences and interpenetrations, where science seeks not only attractive visualizations of data, and art seeks not only to test the possible threats and limitations posed by science, which by itself might be too one-sided in addressing them. What goes beyond that “not only” in the art/science intercourse is art striving to become science’s equal in using and imposing epistemological precision.” (Viola Krajewska).

The context of the exhibition is being broadened by the digital archive of video documentations depicting the events of the last four editions of the WRO Biennale. It is a self-operated unit enabling the audience to view the carefully chosen and edited clips that present the gamut of issues forming the ground for contemporary media art in the variety of all its forms and processes.

The exhbition is presented in Lviv on invitation of the Tetramatyka Festival and thanks to the financial support of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016.

About exhibition
