wro09 expanded tour

The WRO 09 Expanded Tour is a program prepared by Piotr Krajewski, WRO’s artistic director, presenting the most interesting works from the thirteenth international WRO Media Arts Biennale, which took place in May and June 2009 in Wroclaw. Over 300 works created during the last two years were featured at the WRO 09 Biennale; the festival was the world premiere for many of them, and the Polish premiere for the vast majority.
The program included video screenings, performances, installations, net and software art, shown at Wroclaw’s Puppet Theater, the National Museum, the BWA Awangarda and Entropia galleries and the WRO Art Center, which also hosted the international symposium entitled The Expanded City. Among the major events of the WRO 09 program was the international competition, with prizes awarded by a jury of artists, critics and curators from four countries. Special Curator’s Screenings, events in various urban spaces and the AudioVisual Scene festival club rounded out the program.

This year is the 20th anniversary of both the WRO festival and the WRO On Tour programs. These post-Biennale exhibitions, held in galleries and museums both in Poland and abroad, let new audiences see the most interesting works from the Biennale, and create an opportunity to take another look at the topics and issues discused during the festival.

Because of the diversity of the WRO 09 Biennale program and to mark our 20th anniversary, The WRO 09 Expanded Tour has an even more extensive program than usual, featuring separate parts that can be displayed as a complete set, individually or in various combinations.
