Marek Wasilewski | Orkiestron | {instalacja wideo | video installation}

Marek Wasilewski – Orkiestron

Orkiestron, Polish for the orchestra pit, is the title of the new multi-channel video installation by Marek Wasilewski. The artist has recorded numerous instances of instrument tuning and musical rehearsals taking place before the performances at the Teatr Wielki, Poznań stage. Next, an audiovisual spectacle has been composed with selected clips. The resulting sonic space references another work by Wasilewski, "Players" ("Gracze", 2004), juxtaposing in a similar way the musicians playing in New York subway.

Marek Wasilewski is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (1993) and Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, London (1998). He was a British Council, Fullbright Foundation and Kościuszko Foundation grants holder. He is a professor at the Multimedia Communication Department, Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. Art critic and an editor-in-chief of "Czas Kultury" bimonthly. He has written three books: "Sztuka nieobecna", "Sex, pieniądze i religia" and the recent "Czy sztuka jest wściekłym psem?" His primary medium is video, and his works have been exhibited in ON and AT galleries, Poznań, Galeria Wschodnia and Manhattan gallery, Łódź, Bunkier Sztuki, Kraków, CSW Zamek Ujazdowski, Warsaw, Galeria Arsenał, Białystok, Galeria Klimy Bocheńskiej, Warsaw, Zero gallery, Berlin, Stuttgarter Kunstverein, Stuttgart, Museum of Contemporary Art, Strasbourg, Kunstmuseum Bonn, and e-flux video rental, New York.
